Timing is the most important factor when moving home. Reducing the time you spend "in limbo" will make the process easier, smoother and cheaper. The companies you employ to move your belongings, the estate agents, and other home owners in the chain will decide how long the whole process will take.
Fridays and days near the end of the calendar month are the busiest period for moving home. If possible try to avoid these days - some removal companies may even give you a discount.
Ideally the removal company should pick up your boxes in the morning and begin the slow journey to your new home. During this time you should hand over the keys to the old property and meet the estate agent to collect the keys for your new property. Remember a large removal lorry will be slow to travel, so you may have to wait at the destination for it to arrive.
For long distance relocation, removal companies may pick up your belongings the day before you move into your new property. Commercial driving is heavily restricted by law, and maximum distance traveled in a day is limited. Drivers are required to take frequent breaks, and an overnight stop may be required.
