How does the process work?
The process doesn't differ much from buying a house through an estate agent, except you will be dealing directly with the seller. More information is available at How It Works.
Are private house sales legal?
Absolutely! The Estate Agency Act of 1979 allows home owners to privately sell their own property. In fact, estate agents simply make their money by providing a generic service to all sellers and buyers - but the seller is really the best person you can deal with, because it's their home!
What if I see an estate agent selling the same property?
Often estate agents will list properties while still allowing the homeowner to sell their house privately. Sometimes an agent will still charge the homeowner commission, but that is between the private seller and the estate agent. Contact the private seller for further information.
Is MoveLocation an estate agent?
No, MoveLocation does not act as an estate agent. We simply publish details of homes being sold privately, and help buyers through the process.
What does an estate agent do?
Contrary to popular belief, an estate agent only does the following:
- Property valuation for the market
- Marketing of the property through advertising
- Manage property viewings
There is no reason why private sellers cannot arrange these themselves to avoid the estate agent commission.
